Often the wisdom tooth has not erupted into the mouth and it is necessary to expose the wisdom tooth first. Occasionally, the bone surrounding the wisdom tooth also needs to be gently removed. Sometimes the tooth needs to be divided into multiple pieces in order to remove it. If the wound is wide open then we need to place stiches to achieve closure and these will dissolve away after about one week.
